Do I need to make an appiontment to order our wedding cake?

The short answer is no. There is almost always someone here daily who can give you a wedding cake quote (or take your order). We are available Monday and Tuesday 7 am to 2 pm and Wednesday through Saturday 7 am to 6 pm--if these hours do not work for you we do recommend calling to make an appointment (207-783-2226).

What do we need to bring with us when we come to place our order?

Please know the number of people you invited, as this will determine cake size. Also, if you have any pictures or ideas of your dream wedding cake, bring those too. Last, know your budget. We have a lot of experiencing working with a wide variety of budgets. There are many ways to get exactly what you want while still be cost efficient.

How far in advance do we need to place our cake order?

You may place your order any time you are ready. Some people order over a year in advance. We appreciate having at least two weeks notice, when possible. As soon as you place a deposit on your order it locks in your price and your date.

How much cake do we need to order?

As a general rule of thumb, 2/3 to 3/4 of invited guests will respond to attend. Of those attending 10 to 15% will not eat cake for a variety of reasons (don't like it, dieting, diabetic, gluten intolerant, etc.).

If you plan to save the top tier of your cake for your first anniversary, you will need to add 10 servings into your count.

As soon as you're ready and comfortable, you should place a tentative order for what you think you need for your cake. Two weeks prior to your wedding, you should have your RSVPs back and should then call or come see us to make any necessary adjustments.

What cake flavors are available?

We have many flavors to choose from. You can choose up to two flavors per a tier. We don't recommend choosing too many flavors, as it'll make serving the cake a chore. We offer the following cake flavors:

White Chocolate Marble Cherry
Spice   Raspberry    Strawberry  Almond
Lemon Red Velvet Blueberry

Can we have fillings between the layers?

You bet! Typically we use frosting between the layers of our wedding cakes, but for a small fee (per tier), you can have the filling of your choice. You can choose from the following fillings:

Vanilla Custard   Raspberry   Strawberry
  Chocolate Custard   Lemon Cherry
Blueberry

Can you arrange fresh fruit on our wedding cake?

Depending on what you want to do, we may be able to accommodate your request. If we can accommodate you, we ask that you provide the fruits you would like to use. We would charge a modest fee for washing, preparing, and arranging the fruit on your cake.

Can you arrange fresh flowers on our wedding cake?

We would be happy place fresh floral arrangements on your cake. The floral arrangements would need to arriave at our shop at least 3 hours prior to delivery. We also, for a small fee, will be happy to arrange cut greens or cut flowers around the base of your cake. We will not arrange flowers into or onto your cake for you.

If you want flowers arranged into or onto your cake, you will need to arrange for this service with your florist. We would be happy to coordinate with your florist, either by meeting them at the delivery site or having them come by our shop to decorate your cake prior to delivery.

Can we bring in our own cake top?

Yes, but please know we sell a wide variety of cake tops in store and have the ability (with enough notice) to special order one for you. Willow Tree cake tops are quite popular right now and are offered in our store.

You will need to bring your cake top in to us early enough so we can confirm it will physically fit on your cake and will be a "stable" top. (Tip: Tall cake tops tend to be "top heavy". It's best that your cake top does not exceed 5 inches in height.)

Will Grant's Bakery deliver and set-up our wedding cake?

Most brides and grooms don't want to worry about picking-up their wedding cake, so we'd be happy to deliver anywhere in the state. There is a fee for this service, based on the estimated time involved. There is also an extra added charge if you want delivery on a Sunday or holiday.

Can we make changes to our wedding cake?

Yes, in fact, we encourage you to call us two weeks prior to your wedding to make any necessary adjustments. Two weeks prior to the wedding you should have your RSVPs and at that time would know if you need to down (or up) size your cake. At that same time you can make any last minute adjustments to your cake order.

When are payments due?

We require a 20% deposit when you place your order. The remaining balance is due two weeks prior to your wedding. If it is more convenient for you to pay weekly or monthly payments, we'd be happy to accommodate you. Payments can be made over the phone with credit card or in person with cash, credit card, or check (personal checks are only accepted 3+ weeks prior to your wedding).

How should we store the top tier for our first anniversary?

There are 3 important steps to ensure a tasty anniversary cake:

1. Wrap your cake in waxed paper or plastic wrap and then in aluminum foil.

2. Place the cake in a cardboard box or plastic container.

3. Bury your cake in the back of an upright freezer or on the bottom of a chest freezer.

What really "kills the cake" is the constant changing temperature of the door opening and closing.
